A station page is a good home, but most radio is heard somewhere else: a radio app on the phone, the car on the way to work, a speaker in the kitchen. Starting today, your AWE Radio station can be found there too.
radio-browser.info is a free, public directory of internet radio. VLC, hundreds of radio apps, many car head units and smart speakers search it when someone types a station name. Until now, getting into it meant filling in a form by hand.
Now it is one checkbox. In your dashboard, open Settings, Radio apps, tick List my station in radio apps and choose your country. If your station is on Discover, it is listed within seconds; if not yet, it is listed automatically the day it gets there. Your name, picture and genre tags go with it.
Behind the listing is a classic MP3 stream with the current track title, the format radios have played for twenty years. Every station has one at http://icy.aweradio.app/your-station/your-channel, and it works in anything that takes a stream address, listed or not. The radio apps guide has the details.
Listening on your station page and in the AWE Radio apps reaches people through a network that costs us next to nothing per listener, which is why it is free and unlimited, and stays that way.
The MP3 stream for radio apps is different: our own servers send every minute of it, and each hour has a real bandwidth cost. So radio-app listening has a free allowance of 500 hours a month per station, which covers nearly every station comfortably. If a station goes past it, new radio-app listeners hear a short note pointing to the station page until the 1st, and the station page keeps playing as normal.
Some stations will find a real audience in radio apps. For them there is AWE Radio Premium, our first paid plan: 19 euros, 19 dollars or 199 kronor a month per station.
