Radio apps

Most people don't listen to internet radio in a browser. They use a radio app on their phone, the radio in their car, a smart speaker or an internet radio on the kitchen shelf. Every AWE Radio station has a stream those devices can play.

Your stream address

Your station plays as a classic MP3 stream, with the current track title sent along, at

http://icy.aweradio.app/your-station/your-channel

For example, the stream of aweradio.app/@edge is http://icy.aweradio.app/edge/hop. Your exact address is in your dashboard under Settings, Advanced, Stream addresses.

Paste it into any app or device that takes a stream address, such as VLC, a car radio's custom station, a Sonos "add a radio station" or an internet radio. It is plain http on purpose, because many hardware radios cannot play https streams.

Get listed in radio apps

radio-browser.info is a free, public directory of radio stations. Hundreds of radio apps, car units and smart speakers search it, so a listing there lets people find your station by name.

1. Open your dashboard, then Settings, Radio apps.
2. Tick List my station in radio apps and choose the country your station is from.
3. Press Save.

If your station is on Discover, we add it to radio-browser.info right away. If it isn't yet, we add it automatically the moment it is. The card in Settings tells you which. Discover needs 15 playable tracks, a station picture and a sentence about your station; your dashboard shows what is missing.

How listening is counted

Listening through the MP3 stream is counted in hours: one person listening for one hour is one hour, and ten people listening for an hour is ten hours. Your hours this month are on the Radio apps card in Settings.

Listening on your station page, on aweradio.app and in the AWE Radio apps is never counted, and has no limit. Those use a different kind of stream that reaches listeners at almost no cost to us. The MP3 stream for radio apps is sent out by our own servers, so every hour of it costs us bandwidth.

At the free limit

Every station gets 500 radio-app hours a month for free. After that, until the 1st of the next month:

• new radio-app listeners hear a short note pointing them to your station page, where it keeps playing;
• people already listening keep listening;
• listening on the web and in our apps is not affected at all.

More hours with Premium

If your audience outgrows the free hours, AWE Radio Premium includes 2,000 radio-app hours a month, then 1 euro or dollar per 100 hours up to a monthly limit you set, so a bill can never surprise you. Premium also brings priority support and live broadcasting.
